Welcome - My Story

A little bit of background:
I have been in the graphic design industry for more than seventeen years. I studied at KvB Institute of technology in North Sydney, and graduated with an Advanced Diploma. After spending my first working year as an in-house designer, I moved into magazine publishing, and I haven’t looked back.

I’ve worked for companies such as Pacific Magazines, Universal Magazines, and Express Media Group, and on titles such as That’s Life!, Complete Wedding Sydney, Australian Homespun, and Scrapbooking Memories to name a few.

After having my children, I started my own design business from home, and KILA Designs was born.

My Writing Journey:
One day I was on holiday with my family. We were driving and I was daydreaming as I often do. I had a fleeting though that one day, I’d like to write a book, but the moment that thought popped into my head, it wouldn’t leave. When we go home, I opened a Word doc on my laptop and began to write.

I was thirty-two.

At first, all I wanted to do was see if I could actually finish a book. I tried to have it published the traditional way, but twelve months of rejections had me searching for another solution. I believed in my story, and I wanted others to have the chance to read it. When I researched self-publishing, I knew it was the right path for me to take, and again I haven’t looked back.

My Design Outlook:
I’m lucky that I can do myself, a lot of the things that need to be done when publishing a book. Design and formatting are one of the biggest costs associated with self-publishing. I know where self-published authors are coming from, which is why I decided to re-direct the focus of my business to help other authors like me.

I would love to help you with your next project, and bring your dreams to life.

Every story is not always about the final destination, it’s about the journey we take to get there.
